Making a Difference: Anney Ardiel of Anney’s Closet.
She saw teenage girls aging out of foster care, women leaving abusive relationships, teen mothers and at-risk women left with next to nothing. Ardiel also saw seniors downsizing their homes and their belongings, which sparked an idea marrying those needing to give with those in need.

A decade of helping women: Public invited to Anney’s Closet 10th anniversary in View Royal.
From its inception, the organization has aimed to provide new or gently used household items ranging from kitchenware, cutlery, plates, bedding – including quilts made by the West Shore Quilters Guild – and towels to women who are either aging out of foster care and preparing to live on their own for the first time, women who are leaving unsafe homes, often with children, and refugees settling in the region to help them get a head start in their new lives.

Off the shelf, a stress reliever for teen mothers.
As Cynthia Newman, 19, browses the household items stacked neatly in a storage locker, she pulls a juicer off the shelf. It’s the teen mother’s third time visiting Anney’s Closet, which provides free household items to young women in need.

Anney’s Closet was conceived through the ingenuity of Soroptimist International, Victoria West Shore (SIVW), a group of women of all ages who bring with them a wealth of experience and interests. They believe in, and contribute to, the wonderful potential in women and girls in our community and around the world.
